Jobs in Ecuador

The Ecuadorian economy underwent a series of changes in the past few years, in order to initiate and speed up the process of economic growth. Dollarization of the Ecuadorian economy is one such change brought in recent years. Jobs in Ecuador are supposed to increase with these reforms. As of now, jobs in Ecuador are mostly concentrated in the agriculture, oil and mining sector.

A significant percentage of the work force is engaged in agriculture. Oil or petroleum industry is Ecuador’s largest industries. It is also the leading export industry in the country. Coffee is the second largest export product. The service sector in Ecuador hasn’t emerged to significant proportions yet. Ecuador is also world’s largest banana exporter.

Dollarization of the Ecuadorian economy has brought down inflation rates, which has relieved the economy to a large extent. Also, the U.S became one of the main exporting countries in Ecuador.

Seafood and floral industry have made commendable contributions to the economy. Thus, the employment pattern is largely concentrated in the leading industries of petroleum, coffee, seafood and flower.

The government of Ecuador along with international agencies and countries is working towards diversifying and increasing demand of jobs in Ecuador. In order to boost the employment situation, jobs need to be increased outside the farming sector to include the workforce present in both rural and urban areas.
A lot of scope for improvement exists in this respect.
