Jobs in Oman

The Sultanate of Oman is situated in Southwest Asia on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Oman is one of those countries in the Middle East which has a remarkably stable economy. The per capita GDP of the country is around 34%. As it has a stable economy, jobs in Oman, in different fields are mostly available. Agriculture (dates and lime) and fishing has been the traditional way of life for the people of Oman. But after the discovery of oil in 1964, in Fahud, oil, petroleum and related products and these industries have influenced the life of the people very much. Though the exports of fish and shellfish has been around $34 million in 2000, the production of natural gas, petroleum and oil have been much higher and have earned the country higher foreign revenue. Though there are different fields, but jobs in Oman are mostly available in the oil and gas industry.
Presently the government of Oman is trying to modernize the economy and improve the standard of living. Not only this, the Omani government has launched the sixth 5 year plan in 2000 and has laid emphasis on the “Omanization” of labor force especially in banking, hotels and municipally sponsored shops. Moreover the government is trying to create jobs for Omanis in the private sector as well. Also the U.
S. Congress has approved the US-Oman Free Trade Agreement which President Bush is expected to sign. As a result of all these a huge job market has opened up and a large number of jobs in Oman are available. Presently in the sector of tourism, at least 32,000 jobs are created because of the Blue City Project that the government has taken up which will be a self sufficient metropolis. Professionally qualified and skilled persons can easily get jobs there as there is a lack of skilled labor in the country.
