Jobs in Paraguay

Despite its turbulent political history, Paraguay has recovered well in terms of job opportunities, although its economy is still largely dependent on the unorganized sector. Iron and steel, cement, petroleum (refinery product) sugar, textiles, beverages, wood products and steel are some of the main industries of Paraguay which require human resources in large numbers. With a marked increase in GDP (Gross Domestic Product), jobs in Paraguay are on the rise.
Timber, iron ore, manganese and lime stone are some of the natural resources abundantly available in Paraguay. The current political and economic structure of Paraguay is quite favorable for foreign investment as restrictions have been liberalized to a great extent. Paraguay has a very friendly tax system which has given birth to rampant corruption. However, appropriate measures have been adopted by the Government to bring this under control.

The economy of Paraguay is largely dependent on bilateral trade. Soyabean feed, cotton, meat, edible oils, electricity, wood and leather are some of the main exports of Paraguay while consumer goods, motor vehicles, tobacco, petroleum products and electrical machinery goods are some of the important commodities which Paraguay imports. The major trading partners of Paraguay are Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Switzerland, U.S.A. and China. It has also entered into a treaty with the following countries:

  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • France
  • South Africa
  • Taiwan
  • United Kingdom
  • Uruguay

On a smaller scale, Paraguay also has investment agreements with Benelux, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Germany, Hungary, Korea, Netherlands, Peru, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, and Venezuela. As the foreign investments laws and rules are very liberal, it is making a big impact on the economy and the labor market of Paraguay. The United States of America and Luxembourg pump in a lot of money in terms of foreign direct investment into Paraguay. The banking system in Paraguay is quite strong and loans and credits are available for various purposes.

Since Paraguay is a country without a seaport, many neighboring countries such as Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay have allowed them the use their seaports for trading purposes and warehouses for storing, handling, and transportation of goods. Though Paraguay is primarily dependent on agriculture, the steady growth in the commercial sector has boosted employment opportunities.
