Q: Do you want to ask anything from us?
Failure to ask questions to the interviewer is indeed a major flaw. In fact, your success in grabbing a job largely depends on what and how your ask.

Q: What are your hobbies?
Though this isn’t a professional question, yet you need to answer it with transparency.

My hobbies include browsing the internet, blogging, listening to music, chatting with my friends and reading newspapers.

Q: Who has been an inspiration for you?
Do not take the names of any famous person or someone from your family. Well, it is not bad in having them as your role model but try to separate yourself from the other interviewees. Say about someone who is not so famous but has been motivated you. If you really follow someone from deep within your heart then say things that may be reflected in your work.

You may say, “I am inspired by Thomas Alva Edison and have tried to experiment and discover a lot in my childhood days. Though I failed most of the time but continued the nonsense of understanding nuances of science”.

Q: What are your strengths?
Be careful in answering this question. Try to mention only those strengths that you could complement with an example. Say something like, “My honesty and hard work has being my strength throughout my career. In my last company when there was crunch in Human resource I took up additional responsibility…” or you may say “I am a quick learner. When I started off my career I had to unlearn and learn a lot, even I had to learn customized software used by the company. I did all this in limited time frame.”

Q: What role are you ready to take in a group?
Do not jump into any particular role like team player or leader. The interviewer(s) is trying to measure your comfort level in different level of the organizational hierarchy. Share your experience and knowledge that you have gained in professional sphere in view to the question. Mention your willingness to work under someone and also highlight the potential that you have to lead a project. Make sure your answer is according to the profile of the job and your experience.

For a Team leader job, do not say, “I am ready to allow any one take the charge”. It would send wrong signal about you management skills. Vice versa if the position is for junior level then do not talk about the higher designation. You may inform that you would be comfortable in taking higher responsibilities in future.

You may say, “With my experience and knowledge I am feel that I could take on challenging roles. I would implement my experience in attaining optimum result for my group. I am comfortable in wearing the team leader shoes as I have the required experience. I also have no qualms in playing the role of a team member under someone more experienced.”

Q: Why do you want to work with this organization?
If this question is followed by the previous one then mention the business operation of organization. It is ideal if you could study about the organization’s profile, and its future expansion plan. Use these data to explain the reason behind your urge to associate with the organization.

You may say, “The organization has a very promising future plan, from what I have understood after reading the vision statement. I believe the future course of action would help the organization in becoming a market leader. And I also feel that I could use my knowledge and experience is playing a vital role in the growth of this organization…”

If the previous question was not raised then use the above mentioned answer along with the points mentioned in this question.

Q: Where do you see yourself five years down the line?
Don’t exaggerate and say that you would become the CEO. Also do not be modes in your answer. The answer should help you in projecting yourself down line of five years. Say things like, if you are fresher, “I see myself as a potential employer and a key contributor in the operations of the organization. I believe I would be able to make valuable contribution in the turnover of the organization and also in the functioning of the overall industry”.

If you are a senior professional, then say, “As I have experience in this line of job, it would help me in optimizing the production level. My strategy would be to engage in sustainable development and create a platform for the company that would help the organization in further expansion. The future expansion would be beyond the five years time frame as we do not do business for 5 or 10 years.”

Q: What has been your greatest failure?
Never say that you do not have any failure. Each and every individual in this world is bound to have some failure. Share your failure but do not go on sharing everything that you have failed in. Try to add what you have learnt from your failure. What you may say is, “All failures are bad and it would be wrong to categorize them in degree. I think that the major failure was when I…”

Q: What is more important to you money or position?

Be honest and say what you believe in. There is nothing wrong in mentioning that money is important provided you don’t say things that would create any negative impression like corruption, dishonesty and malpractice. In the same way if you believe that position is important then do not over stretch it and create a situation where it may mean that money is something you are least bothered. Try to balance you answer no matter what is your preference. E. g. - “I believe that position is important as it helps you in taking responsibilities and developing yourself. And I believe that with position and knowledge earning a good remuneration is not difficult.”

This process would not only reduce time consumption but also make things more professional”

Q: What would you do if someone asked you to do something unethical?

Thanks Jobzing for this update. You have stressed the need for Self Assessment, which very few people do nowadays. Very few candidates really do anything on researching the profile and preparing for the critical questions. From my experience of interviewing for many reputed companies (including MNCs), I can say that 90% of the questions can be predicted, if you use your brain.

Next question is your ability to think on your feet and formulate an excellent response and convincingly deliver it. This is the most critical part and cannot be done by attending training program. You must use a high end interview simulator, if possible, the one by Espoir Technologies. Like flight simulator, an interview simulator can help you practice your interview any number of times.
