Q1: Can you give a gist about your book "The Reluctant Detective" that was launched recently?

[ Kiran Manral ] -  The book "The Reluctant Detective" is about humour, the story of Kanan Mehra, a 30 something housewife who finds herself in the midst of two murders in her neighbourhood by default. How she gets entangled into it, the trivia and minutae of suburban life is what the book is all about.

Q2: What inspired you to write your first book?

[ Kiran Manral ] -  I have been writing professionally as a freelance feature for a while now. The book was a big leap of faith.

Q3: If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

[ Kiran Manral ] - Definitely P G Wodehouse. To me he is God.

Q4: If you were written about in the newspaper, on the front page, what would the headline say?

[ Kiran Manral ] -  LOL. I hope not "Woman found hacked to death."

Q5: Has "Living the Game" taken over your personal life? How do you strike a  balance?

[ Kiran Manral ] -  Nope. I work and I spend time with my family. I think having a young child makes you responsible towards using your time more constructively and not letting one aspect take over the other. I do ensure I switch off from work the moment I enter the house and concentrate all my attention on the house and my family.

Q6: How do you stay current?

[ Kiran Manral ] -  I'm far from current my dear. I'm very outdated. I'm from an older demographic, so I think a lot of my information comes from younger folk on Twitter, Facebook etc.

Q7:  What was the hardest part of writing your book?

[ Kiran Manral ] -  Sitting down and writing it. Once I started it flowed and I was done pretty quickly.

Q8: Which books have influenced your life most?

[ Kiran Manral ] -  Everything I have read, I think. The diary of Anne Frank, most of all.

Q9: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

[ Kiran Manral ] -  Read this book to have a good laugh. Don't take it seriously. Read it in the spirit with which it was written.

Q10:  Do you have any advice for other writers?

[ Kiran Manral ] -  Sit down and write. Every single day. Writing is a skill that needs practice.
