Private School Teacher: As a private school teacher you are responsible for educating students in your class. Depending on the level of grade, you may be responsible for a multiple subjects or one single subject. In addition to your teaching duties, there may be extra roles in study hall, the cafeteria, sports and other after school activities. The salary expectancy is between $44,000 to $48,420 per year, depending on the grade you will be teaching. 

 

You will need a minimum of bachelor’s degree. A master's degree or doctorate is also preferable. Degrees in a subject area is preferred over an education degree particularly at the high school level.  

 

Public School Teacher: If you want to teach in public schools, then you must have certification. You can obtain this in a number of ways, either by participating in an alternate route to certification program; or participate in a program such as 'Teach For America' that will obtain emergency or provisional certification for you to teach or by getting certification through 'traditional' routes, i.e. by getting certified in conjunction with your Bachelor's degree. The salary expectancy is between $35,000 to $41,910 per year, depending on the grade you will be teaching.
