Tourism plays an integral role in the development of the economy of Virginia. The tourism industry is well flourished and the third largest retail industry in Virginia and an important employer. More than two lac people are employed in tourism jobs in Virginia. Natural beauties like the landscapes, mountains, beaches, lakes, historic places, the George Washington National Forest, Jefferson National Forest, theme parks, museums, music festivals, attractive cuisines, food festivals, professional sports are some of the features of Virginia that attracts national and international tourists in large numbers throughout the year. The state generates a large part of its revenue from the tourism sector and as the industry is growing rapidly it is expected that in near future it would contribute largely in the economic development of the state and would create enormous opportunity for a large part of the population to get tourism jobs in Virginia.
 

To satisfy the demand of tourists, hotels, restaurants, spas, resorts, fishing lodges, have come up in large numbers in all parts of the state and are providing high standard hospitality service. In the year 2001, tourism sector faced a decline in growth as an effect of the destruction of World Trade Center on 11 September. But in 2002 the government in Virginia once against focused on the development and promotion of tourism. As apart of its promotion policy the government had decided to add more hotels and other accommodations and to elongate the duration of staying of tourists. As a result scope for tourism jobs in Virginia has also been broadened.
